How to become fashion model

Much before acting & modelling, Akshay Kumar masters in marshal arts

Different Industry & Scope

eCommerce Modelling , Ramp walk, Fashion Magazine, TV Commercial, Fashion Brand Ambassador, Fashion Influencer, Fashion Stylist, Fashion Blogger, Stylist, Specific Field Modelling etc. there are many types of fashion model exist now. In 2018 there is no fix route to become fashion model. A gym athlete with solid body can do modelling for related product on ramp, TV, magazine and social media. Or a fashion enthusiast can maintain blog, social media channels and pages where rather hiring a model the person him/herself start modelling. There are many cases like this, you can simply watch some successful make tutorials on Youtube, where the makeup artist started with some model but slowly become a global personality & start modelling herself.

Skill Set & Education

If you combine 3 to 4 of above jobs/skills then it will become easy for you, for example you participate in ramp walk, you are locally famous blogger, you are locally famous athlete, you have proper training of styling or makeup or fashion; In this case chances are more to enter into market smoothly. If you only know how to walk on ramp, it will be difficult for you unless you are excellent. This is for entry level, when you get some good financial contracts then you can focus only on modelling.

Try to find out your other talent like dancing, singling, painting, music, body building, or any sports which you can mix with your modelling future plan. If you can mix your talent with modelling career at early stage it can help you. Again this is for entry level, when you get some good financial contracts then you can focus only on modelling.

Local & international celebrity, actors, athletes etc. generally charge more than a regular fashion model. You can read about highest earning fashion models in world by clicking here. It’s not easy at early stage to get work easily. Why fashion model exist? Who get benefited, how & why? The core is marketing, advertising & branding.

It’s not “who you are” but it’s “who knows you”

Understanding & technical knowledge can always help you. Ad Agency, Fashion Event Company, Model Management, Event Sponsorship Management, Fashion Photography, Fashion Makeup & Styling etc. if you know about these business models, profit margin, functioning & constraints then surely you will be preferred over other models. Cost reduction, time management, client satisfaction & correct brand positioning etc. are some key targets for organizers. If fashion model understand organizers expectation then it can build good PR and the fashion model can go in long term financial contract with the organiser or agency.  Ultimately it’s not “who you are” but it’s “who knows you”.

Lesser Important Things

Approach

It is not about personality, poses and expressions. To be a professional fashion model you should not have a conventional body, excellent confidence. It is not required to carry all kind of garments with confidence. You can focus on 1 or 2 specific modelling fields where your physical contract doesn’t fight with project need. If you are 5 feet with attractive eyes, sensual face & suggestive expression, rather fighting simply go for eye 0r face make up product modelling.

Body type

Only face modelling or only hand etc.

No need to have fit and lean body. If you have eyes like Ashwarya Roy you can do face modelling for beauty product even if you are bulky. For watch or bangles, if your hands are beautiful try it.

Height

Product modelling is easy option, simply search shoes on Google you will find model wearing shoes with less focus on model height. Or photography angle can manage it easily.

Bulky

Plus size modelling for fashion events, magazine and ecommerce.

Zero Size

It is unprofitable as it will narrow your scope & opportunity.

trivago

Trivago Model, Remember your education always helps whatever it is, Doctor, Engineer, CA, Law MBA etc.

If you write fashion blogs, you can be famous model & earn more than what regular model earn

If you are sports person or athlete

If are gifted  abled, Modelling for Prosthetic and artificial limbs industry

Openness to world:

Small pattern change is black gown is not fashion. Openness to world fashion is primary consideration. Openness to tribal fashion, cultural fashion, third world countries fashion and ancient textile, handloom, hand printing & hand embroidery etc and school course must incorporate these in syllabus. Do you want to make career in fashion forecasting?

In the pre-Internet world, the trend forecasting system was clearly defined. You no longer need a powerful position at a fashion house to influence style; all you need is your phone. Exposure to social media and e-commerce access can influence trends, and trends can be forecast across almost every single aspect of your day to day life. When you have some of the world’s biggest brands–the likes of Zara, Topshop, H&M, and Marks and Spencer– all subscribing to the same database of colors, patterns and practically ready-made templates, it’s not difficult to see why “shoppers complain that everything on the high street looks the same.” If you are able to mix social media trend with e –commerce buying pattern, you will have huge advantage while applying for a job or starting your own forecasting consultancy.

Before applying for job:

  1. Start and run an own fashion forecasting blog, vlog, page or publish papers, you can use your content as a portfolio when applying for a trend forecasting position. This will show employers that you’re already a player in the field and that you’re knowledgeable and passionate about sharing your insights with others.
  2. Do an internship and getting some valuable hands-on experience in a trend forecasting role.

Learn following technical skill & knowledge:

  1. Track Fashion manufacturers, they have developed a strategy called “fast fashion,” which aims to deliver copies of the latest runway shows in as little as three to six weeks. The quick turnaround eliminates the need for long-term forecasting and instead relies on short-term forecasting based on real-time data to make buying decisions. Get recent year sales data and divide it for different design pie chart such as color pie chart, sleeve pie chart, collar pie chart etc.
  2. Track the movements of celebrity trendsetters and underground early adopters to see what fashions are being promoted and worn on social media. Read blogs and popular interactive trending social media sites for the latest gossip and filter through the images and files receiving the most attention in numbers or %. Include trends promoted by popular designers to come up with their predictions in numerical form.
  3. Make close loop questionnaire & do qualitative quantitative survey. Consumer research performed through telephone surveys, online questionnaires and direct customer feedback adds statistics about buying trends that tell forecasters what colors have sold well, what demographics are most likely to make purchases and which products sold in maximum numbers.
  4. Do not apply social, cultural, traditional and local fashion input by yourself. Get numerical data from above 3 and then do analysis. For example red color halter neck off shoulder chiffon two piece gown is in Google Trend, on social media Facebook, Instagram etc, famous fashion designers show similar dresses on fashion shows etc. Get this numerical data and compare with other trend.
  5. Follow Fashion Forecasting magazines and websites such as VIEW, COLLEZIONI, WGSN, WWD.com, TRENDZOOM, TRENDSHOP etc.
  6. Follow Google’s daily/yearly trends report. The biggest search engine in the world makes it easy for you to identify what people will be wearing every year. Google’s daily/yearly trends report for shopping and fashion is built to help you predict what products will be flying off the shelves by analyzing accumulated search data.

World Fashion & Word Religion

sarcastic-facebook-status-20668.jpg

The basic invention of religion was done to provide economical environment to flourish its God (DNA) by advertising & selling its food, fashion, language and places by these three Intellectuals + Powerful + Industrialists. Weak God (DNA) could not protect its ancient history (Fashion, Food, and Dialect) and so could not protect its future geography too; and many religions are extinct or in endangered category now. To globally spread nation’s Fashion, Food & Dialect is much more important than investment in army & arms for national security. That’s why women’s face covering is a controversial political (not at all religious) issue in most of the educated countries, it is just a financial plan of a religion (i.e. long term politics).

6410305_orig.jpg

Some African countries such as Malawi, Niger, Congo, Zimbabwe etc are erroneously ranked poor, what if they could globally spread and advertise their religion (food, fashion, language and places). If globally people replace European bread/pizza/burger, pant/shirt/coat/gown, English/Mandarin/Hindi/Spanish and religious tourist place in Europe/Middle East/Mexico/Japan by corresponding things in these poor countries – now this is the only and only work of religion.

Judaism

Hinduism

Buddhism

Sikhism

Zoroastrianism

Chinese Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism

Japanese Buddhism and Shintoism

Judaism

The tallit is a Jewish prayer shawl worn while reciting morning prayers as well as in the synagogue on Sabbath and holidays. India

Geographical influence was ranging from Shortugai, Oxus River, Kazakhstan, and in the west Sutkagan Dor, Iraq.  One of the earliest Neolithic sites in the Indian subcontinent is Bhirrana along the ancient Saraswati riverine system in the present day state of Haryana in India, dating to around 7600 BC.

Evidences for textiles in Indus Valley Civilisation are from impressions made into clay and from preserved pseudomorphs. One fragment of colored cloth is available in evidence which is dyed with red madder show that people in Harappan civilisation dyed their cotton clothes with a range of colors. Men wore a long cloth wrapped over their waist and fastened it at the back (just like a close clinging dhoti). Turban was also in custom. Evidences also show that there was a tradition of wearing a long robe over the left shoulder. The normal attire of the women at that time was a very scanty skirt up to knee length leaving the waist bare. Cotton made head dresses were also worn by the women.

China

Early evidence for Chinese millet agriculture is dated to around 7000 BC, with the earliest evidence of cultivated rice found at Chengtoushan near the Yangtze River, dated to 6500 BC. Chengtoushan may also be the site of the first walled city in China.

Archaeologists have found thousands of year old artifacts such as stone beads, ornaments, and woven silk. These findings were the clear representation of the uses of clothing in Ancient China. Poor people used hemp clothes which were durable, loose fitting, and comfortable to work in the field. On the other hand, Rich people clothes were made of up silk.

Peru/Colombia (Andean)

The earliest evidence of agriculture in the Andean region dates to around 4700 BC at Huaca Prieta and Paredones. The oldest evidence of canal irrigation in South America dates to 4700 to 2500 BC in the Zaña Valley of northern Peru.

Having been heavily influenced by the preceding Paracas culture, which was known for extremely complex textiles, the Nazca produced an array of beautiful crafts and technologies such as ceramics, textiles, and geoglyphs (most commonly known as the Nazca lines). They spun vegetable fibers to weave into textiles and mats for housing. Weaving was an important artistic achievement of the ancient cultures of Andean.

Mexico (Mesoamerican / Mayan)

The Coxcatlan caves in the Valley of Tehuacán provide evidence for agriculture in components dated between 5000 and 3400 BC. Similarly, sites such as Sipacate in Guatemala provide maize pollen samples dating to 3500 BC.

At the same time, cotton, yucca and agave were exploited for fibbers and textile materials. Ancient Maya women had two natural types of cotton to work with, one white and the other light brown, called cuyuscate, both of which were commonly dyed. Elite women were also given the opportunity to work with the most expensive feathers and pearl beads. Although actual ancient samples of textiles have not survived the tropical climate of Mesoamerica, Pre-Columbian sculptural depictions and paintings of figures wearing woven costume indicate that textiles were decorative, highly valued, and used to show elite status since the Pre-Classic/Formative period (1500 B.C.E.-250 C.E.).

How can fashion designer patent a designs?

How can fashion designer patent a designs?

3D Printed Shoes Patented by United Nude

Fashion designers must avoid “obvious” design patentability planning. A patent examiner can reject your application if the design is obvious. What is “obvious”? 3D printing components are used in Aviation & Automotive Industry to make sample prototype for checking aero dynamics, fitment, dimension and other non-destructive testing; now if a fashion designer is making a shoes using same 3D printing technology, then it will be considered “Obvious”. There are many patents by Fashion Designers related to 3D printed accessories and costumes, but all they discuss about difference from conventional 3D printing, improvement in user experience, modification in raw material chemical composition and other innovation the fashion designer did for Patentability.

There are certain parameters which are considered to reject or accept a patentability application, as explained below: –

Difference in Inventive Steps and Creative Difficulty define type of Patent which can be granted
  1. If the invention a product of combining prior art elements according to known methods to yield predictable results, then the invention is obvious.
  2. If the invention is created through a substitution of one known element for another to obtain predictable results, then the invention is obvious.
  3. If the invention is achieved by using a known technique to improve a similar device in the same way, then the invention is obvious.
  4. If the invention is created by applying a known improvement technique in a way that would yield predictable results, then the invention is obvious.
  5. If the invention is achieved from choosing a finite number of identifiable, predictable solutions that have a reasonable expectation to succeed, then the invention is obvious.
  6. If known work in one field of endeavour prompts variations based on design incentives or market forces and the variations are predictable to one of skill in the art, then the invention is obvious.

Fashion Designers must consider above 3 factors before considering Patentability

What fashion Designers can do to avoid this rejection? Because if the invention would be obvious to anyone involved in the same field as the inventor, then there can be no “statutory monopoly” granted in the form of a patent.

  • The scope and content of the prior art are to be determined – Fashion Designers must do a technical comparison and highlight currently available or older patents.
  • Differences between the prior art and the claims at issue are to be ascertained – Fashion Designer must highlight “How proposed design is different for existing or older patents considering terms and condition of “Obvious” design”.
  • The level of ordinary skill in the pertinent art is to be resolved – It is possible that someone skilled in the relevant field of technology and familiar with its subject matter could have invented it with comparative ease had he tried; such an “invention” would be novel but obvious to that person. Consider different country, different industry and different usability for the level of ordinary skill in the pertinent art. One example is carbon fibre costumes designed by Fashion Designers. Actually Carbon Fibre was already invented by someone else and already in use in Medical, Aviation and Manufacturing Industry.

Now Smart Clothing Companies are using same prior art which is used for Space Suit Design to regulate temperature, humidity and sensors for Heart Beat, Blood Pressure and other conditions.  Can they get patent, Please comment what you think ?
