Why Germany is not ranked above top fashion countries like France, Italy & UK?

Germany is ranked 4th world’s biggest economy by IMF 2018 ahead of UK, France & Italy. Germany has world famous fashion brands include BOSS, Adidas, PUMA, Escada, JOOP and many more. Moreover Germany is in world top 5 for biggest textile exporter with India, China, Bangladesh & Italy. World’s Top fashion designers from Germany are e.g. Karl Lagerfeld, Hugo Boss, Wolfgang Joop, Jil Sander, Michael Michalsky, Etienne Aigner and many more. The Bread & Butter in Berlin is a leading trade fair for street fashion and ready-to-wear trends, twice annually during Berlin Fashion Week. Important fashion media of Germany include the German Vogue, Elle, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, Jolie, Glamour, Grazia, Life & Style and Sleek magazines. Strangely, Germany is also the second biggest textile importer, behind only America.

Germany’s textile market share is second only to their food and beverage sector in terms of revenue. German is known for bringing in future technology in manufacturing processes into textile production, upgrading whole world from the low technology, especially top 5 most fashionable countries. That is why Germany is main leader for technical textile manufacturing and future fabrics that require high tech engineering precision to make.

Germany is celebrated for innovation in engineering and technology. This has foremost influence on fashion too. Probably German youth, industry and government are more fascinated in technical improvement and innovation aspect of fashion.  Technical textiles are used for a wide variety of products, such as outer-space, automotive, deep water, vehicle interiors, protective clothing, and packaging. Since there are several applications of textiles consequently German innovations are more into it. Textile production machines, 3D printing technology for textile, carbon fibre manufacturing and technical research, design and innovation get more weighted compared to art, creativity and beauty.

It can be concluded that Germany is top techno-fashion country and it is unexpectedly much ahead of other countries’ fashion technology. Primarily educational background of global top fashion designers, fashion models and fashion enthusiast does not intermingle & match with futuristic approach of Germany’s fashion culture. Well, Berlin is in top 10 most fashionable cities in the world – it is worthless to raise any doubt here now.
