MIFT bridging gap in fashion education, market and industry in India

Why Indian Education System is considered mediocre compared to Europe, American or Japanese education system. In MIFT research and development analysis it becomes clear that high population, availability of resources and government cannot be blamed completely. Through various survey, research and data analysis MIFT established that the primary cause is something else. MIFT has done psychometric & cognitive test on 1000 design graduate students to understand there capability. MIFT Research and Development has one design school, two fashion brands, Advertising Agency and Patent & IPR consultancy.

First let’s discuss about these tests. Cognitive assessment tests try to gauge person’s ability to identify and process information from their environment. Contrary to it, personality tests are more focused on people’s dispositions to behave in a certain way in particular situation. Benchmarking and Comparison with others might give a straightforward and natural way to understand a personality. Normative tests are method of assessment, or evaluation which yields an estimate of the position of the person in a predefined population, for a particular trait; example IQ test.  Criterion referenced test are used where a student or test subject has to meet some prearranged standards. When time is taken into consideration for same subject with all other condition fixed, it is called ideographic test. It is used to monitor student’s progress over time.  You can visit MIFT to learn these career counselling methods and then judge yourself to make a better career.

How many class toppers of 12th go to study fashion?

First Gap – society’s erroneous outlook about job opportunities in fashion industry

Career Counselling is bizarre thing in India. Market decides what a student should choose to study rather than student’s capability or passion. Trend of Engineering, MBA and IT has flourish due to job opportunities and social status. MIFT find in its analysis that many fashion and design students have already studied engineering, business or IT and then they decided to study fashion and design. The primary cause was pressure from family, bandwagon effect and ignorance. And many of students have spoiled years; many are drop out or failed from engineering, business and IT.  Most of the talented students who want to study fashion and have the intellect and capability to be successful designer, become unsuccessful IT professional, engineer or business manager. How can we supply correct talent pool to fashion and design schools?  MIFT is doing career counselling of students, educating parents and running promotions and campaigns to educate society about career opportunities in design field. All toppers of 10th and 12th aim to be doctor, engineer and business manager; to strength Indian design and fashion sector, we need best talent opting design and fashion in graduation. If more ordinary students take fashion in graduation, they will not become successful and will build bad image of fashion career.

The second Gap is missing fashion ecosystem. Education system, Market and Industry are not in sink. Ecommerce, AI & Virtual Reality, Connected Shopping, Big Data Analysis and other technology has completely changed fashion market. Efficient Transportation System, ERP, Logistics, Operational Management, Inventory Management has changed the pace fashion industry work. ZARA the famous fashion brand do not give ad on TV as there design cycle is 10 to 20 days; ZARA design, make and sale a dress in 20 days on an average. On the other hand ecommerce such as Amazon ad can be seen on TV, Mobile and all other media platform. Does fashion give on job training on present need of market and industry? Can designer do consumer data analysis to improve design? Can designer manage whole process in 20 days like ZARA. MIFT is incorporating these entire subjects in its on job training program. MIFT prepares designer who can be successful in current fashion market and industry.

MIFT students are graduated in Engineering, Arts, Commerce, Maths, Social Science, Psychology, Management and other subject in graduation, but have equal scope in fashion industry as those who have done fashion designing 4 year or 3 year degree students have.  MIFT 1 year fashion course students are working in fashion forecasting, ecommerce, data analysis, neuro-marketing, cognitive marketing, online boutique starting – SEO – service, Fashion Show management, movie stylist, ecommerce modelling, wardrobe makeup styling, fashion journalism, affiliate blogging, magazine editor, Photogr… […]

  2. […] AR (Augmented Reality) is helping online shoppers with buying the right look and size by a smart blended reality mirror overlaying clothes on to users. A genius tool that further helps online retailers to reduce the number of returned items. […]
